Dear Parent:
You are invited to attend PRIME TIME, an online family reading program this winter hosted by The Care Center and funded by Mass Humanities. Designed to support families with children ages 6-10, this program helps kids improve their reading skills by involving the whole family in making reading fun.
People who like to read do so often, and people who read often become great readers! PRIME TIME shows families how reading together and discussing the big themes children’s books, like friendship, dreams, identity, and community can help children want to read more. PRIME TIME doesn’t just help to improve reading skills; it has also been proven to improve student achievement in school by enhancing critical thinking and reasoning abilities, the kind of higher-order skills that kids need to succeed in high school and college.
This program is free for all participants and includes a weekly pizza delivered to your home and the opportunity to win door prizes each week. Each family receives 10 children’s books to keep.
This is a six-week, online program. Families attend every week for the whole program. The program involves both the child and their caregiver in the conversation about the books, with conversations led by a trained storyteller and discussion leader who love to work with kids and families. Kids may not attend alone; caregivers are expected to attend each week along with their child.
Families who want to participate must preregister and may do so by filling out this form and returning it to Monica Diaz. For more information, you can email Monica Diaz, the coordinator, at mdiaz@carecenterholyoke.org or call The Care Center at (413) 532-2900.
PRIME TIME will be held on Tuesdays and will start at 6:00 pm and end by 7:30 pm. Here are the dates: Mar. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and Apr. 6.
We hope you will join us for PRIME TIME and look forward to family bonding time and conversation that is fun and meaningful. Space is limited to 12 families, so if you are interested, please don’t wait to sign up!
