A New Generation of Leaders

Destiny Bermudez and Shy’heema Reid are young mothers who completed their HiSET (GED) at The Care Center in 2023 and continued on to our onsite college, Bard Microcollege Holyoke, to earn associate degrees. Both women spoke beautifully at The Care Center’s Annual Fundraising Party about their experience studying while parenting and their inspiring plans for the future.

“We are told when we become mothers that our lives are over. The only things coming to an end are the old versions of ourselves that no longer have any growth to offer. This is only the beginning.” -Destiny Bermudez

“Thanks to The Care Center’s new housing program, my daughter and I just moved into an amazing apartment where we’ll be able to stay for five years while I complete my college degrees. Yes, you heard that right, degrees.” -Shy’heema Reid

The Care Center gave me hope and a desire for change. They actually cared about me and my child. I quickly earned my GED at 16 years old.
