On the first of July, under a giant tent outside of the Wisteriahurst Museum, muggy weather and impending rain weren’t going to stop our determined graduates! A record-breaking 41 students passed the HiSET this year, most of whom will head off to college in the fall.
Jalene Oliveras, valedictorian, spoke about her journey as a struggling young mother with two children to a Care Center graduate with plans for college. She received a nearly perfect score on her reading exam. Salutatorian, Ellen Lafleur received a nearly perfect math score.
Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse and Rep. Aaron Vega also spoke to the students about importance of continuing their education and serving as advocates for the community
